What is the difference between a standard and a certified (court) translation?

A standard translation serves only internal or informative purposes and has no legal validity. A certified translation is executed by a sworn translator registered with the Ministry of Justice of the Slovak Republic, who firmly binds it to the document with a tricolour ribbon and affixes the official round stamp and translator's clause. Only this type of translation is accepted by authorities, courts, and police.

Should I have the original document or a notary certified copy translated?

It depends on the type of document and its intended purpose. For personal documents, the translation is most commonly bound directly with the original.

How are the volume and price of a certified translation calculated?

Accepted Answer

The price of a certified translation is calculated based on the number of standard pages (SP) of the final translation in accordance with the decree of the Ministry of Justice of the Slovak Republic. 1 standard page represents 1,800 characters including spaces (or 250 words).
