Why must Slovak educational documents be apostilled for Italy?

Italian institutions, universities, and authorities (e.g. for degree recognition – Dichiarazione di valore in loco / riconoscimento del titolo di studio, university admission, or employment) require official proof of authenticity for Slovak educational documents. Therefore, an apostilled document proving the completed education under the Hague Convention must be submitted.

Why is an Apostille made on the original and then a second Apostille on the notarized copy?

Accepted Answer

Italian institutions require the Apostille certificate on the original document. However, to prevent the original from being damaged or permanently bound with the translation, after obtaining the Apostille a notary prepares a certified copy, on which we secure a second Apostille certificate. The sworn translator then firmly binds the official Italian translation to this verified copy.

Why does Italy also require an additional Apostille certificate on the sworn translation itself?

Italian authorities and institutions strictly require verification of the authenticity of the signature and seal of the Slovak sworn translator. Therefore, after the Italian translation is prepared and bound with a tricolor ribbon, we secure an additional international Apostille certificate directly on the translator’s clause. The fee for securing this Apostille on the translation is 60 € / document.

At the Legalization Center, we take over your original educational documents, secure the Apostille on the originals (120 €), notarized copies with the second Apostille (70 €), official sworn translation into Italian (35 € / standard page), Apostille on the translation itself (60 €), and binding with a tricolor ribbon and seal. The processing time for educational documents is approximately 3 – 4 weeks (this process unfortunately cannot be expedited). We will deliver the finished, prepared documents to you by courier or hand them over in person in Bratislava.
