Client query and legal basis
How to authorize a driver to drive and use a Slovak vehicle abroad, in the Schengen area, and in Montenegro?
Foreign border and customs authorities in Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and other non-EU states strictly require upon entry and transit a written authorization from the registered owner with a signature certified by a notary in Slovakia, an international Apostille certificate, and an official sworn translation into Montenegrin or English.
Step-by-step procedure: How to resolve the matter safely
1. Filling in the bilingual power of attorney template (ME / SK) (Legalization Center Bratislava)
Prepare a monolingual or bilingual wording of the power of attorney in Montenegrin and/or Slovak. You can customize the text freely according to your needs. If the wording is in Slovak, after obtaining the Apostille we will officially translate the entire document into Montenegrin.
2. Signature certification before a Slovak notary (Notary office in Slovakia)
The principal personally signs the document before a Slovak notary (or candidate notary). The signature must not be certified by an employee authorized by a notary, by a notary trainee, nor certified at a municipal office.
3. Issuance of the Apostille certificate (Legalization Center Bratislava)
The Legalization Center will secure the international Apostille certificate according to the Hague Convention.
4. Official sworn translation of clauses and tricolor binding (Sworn court translator registered with the Ministry of Justice of the Slovak Republic)
We will arrange the official translation of the document. A sworn court translator will prepare an official translation of the Slovak notarial and Apostille clauses (and if needed, the entire document) into Montenegrin and firmly bind the document with a tricolor ribbon and round seal.
