Client query and legal basis
How to authorize a driver to drive and use a Slovak vehicle in Spain and abroad?
Spanish traffic police (Guardia Civil, Policía Local, Mossos d'Esquadra), customs authorities, and insurance companies require, during a roadside check or insurance incident of a vehicle with Slovak license plates, written authorization from the registered owner with a signature certified by a notary in Slovakia, an Apostille certificate, and an official certified translation into Spanish.
Step-by-step procedure: How to resolve the matter safely
1. Filling in the bilingual power of attorney template (ES / SK) (Legalization Center Bratislava)
Prepare a monolingual or bilingual wording of the power of attorney in Spanish and / or in Slovak. You can customize the text freely according to your needs. If the wording is in Slovak, after obtaining the Apostille we will officially translate the entire document into Spanish.
2. Notarization of signature before a Slovak notary (Notary office in Slovakia)
The principal personally signs the document before a Slovak notary (or candidate notary). The signature must not be certified by an employee authorized by a notary, by a notary trainee, nor verified at a municipal office.
3. Issuance of the Apostille certificate (Legalization Center Bratislava)
The Legalization Center will secure the international Apostille certificate according to the Hague Convention.
4. Certified court translation of clauses and tricolor ribbon binding (Certified court translator registered with the Ministry of Justice of the Slovak Republic)
We will arrange the certified translation of the document. A certified court translator will prepare the certified translation of the Slovak notarial and Apostille clauses (or the entire document) into Spanish and firmly bind the document with a tricolor ribbon and round seal.
